The Czech Republic's ÄŒEZ and UK-based Rolls-Royce SMR have signed an Early Works Agreement to start site-specific work for potential small modular reactors at the Temelin nuclear power plant.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation on nuclear energy, with both countries planning new large-scale and small modular reactors in the coming years.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is preparing to sign subcontract agreements and establish a project office at Dukovany after the signing of the contract to build two APR-1000 units at a project cost of CZK407 billion (USD18.6 billion). The aim is to start construction in 2029.

The contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power for new nuclear capacity at the Dukovany site in the Czech Republic has been signed - hours after the Supreme Administrative Court annulled a regional court's injunction to stop it happening. 

French company EDF says the goal of its legal challenge to the decision to award the contract for new nuclear capacity in the Czech Republic to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is to ensure it is "in accordance with European regulatory rules".

The Czech Republic has taken delivery of the first 30 fuel assemblies for the Temelin nuclear power plant from Westinghouse as it replaces its previous supplier from Russia.
