US Secretary of 抖阴传媒在线 Rick Perry yesterday announced $30 million of funding to support the development of advanced nuclear energy technology. The Department of 抖阴传媒在线 (DOE) is soliciting proposals for cost-shared projects to develop innovative, industry-driven reactor designs and accompanying technologies with high potential to advance nuclear power in the USA.
Perry yesterday released a Funding Opportunity Announcement听for the money which DOE will make available in fiscal 2018, subject to the availability of funds. It will be open for a five-year period and will accept applications on a year-round basis, with a quarterly selection process. Additional funding will be available in future years, as allocated by the US Congress.
"Targeted early-stage investment in advanced nuclear technology will support a strong domestic industry now and into the future," Perry said. "This funding opportunity is an important step to ensure our nation continues to benefit from this clean, resilient source of electricity."
"Through this competition, DOE encourages US companies to partner with other听US federal agencies, public and private laboratories, institutions of higher education, and other domestic entities to share expertise needed to successfully develop these innovative technologies," the department said.
Initial applications are due by 31 January 2018.
