The presidents of Turkey and South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in nuclear energy at a meeting in Seoul.

While Russia has recently signed a deal to build, own and operate Turkey's first nuclear power plant at Akkuyu, preparatory work is also under way for a second plant at Sinop and for this South Korea is preparing a bid for a four-unit nuclear plant.

Speaking to the Turkey-South Korea business forum after signing the MoU and various other bilateral agreements, Turkish president Abdulla G眉l stressed the importance of nuclear energy for his country. "Turkey鈥檚 energy capacity is limited, unfortunately. It depends on foreign energy sources as does South Korea. Nuclear energy is crucial for us. We attach great significance to the cooperation with South Korea with regards to a nuclear power station to be founded in Sinop," he said.听
