Susan Eisenhower challenged people to find more on the facts on nuclear energy and its role in addressing climate change, energy security and energy availability. She said nuclear technologies could bring clean, cost-efficient energy to the developing world.

Eisenhower made her comments at a 'sidebar' event held during the UN CSD 15 meeting. She told ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Nuclear News that there were three major challenges to be faced; bringingÌýprosperity to developing countries, addressing climate change and meeting the future rise in global demand for energy. More energy will be needed from sources that do not harm the environment. In addition, the international community will need to ensure that less powerful countries do not lose out in securing access to increasingly scarce energy resources.

Eisenhower recalled the words of President Eisenhower spoken at the UNÌýin 1953Ìýwhen he said that the atom, then the greatest of destructive forces, could be developed into a great boon, for the benefit of all mankind.Ìý The fact that a substantial proportion of electricity supplied in the US is generated using materials previous housed in warheads pointed at the US was noted. Eisenhower highlighted the beneficial role of nuclear technologiesÌýon medicine andÌýagriculture, in addition to energy production

In the same meeting the role of the ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Nuclear University was outlined by ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Nuclear Association's Per Jander, who explained the way in which the ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Nuclear University promotes the development of skills, management and leadership amongst the nuclear industry's young professionals.
