US reactor materials testing facility upgraded
A $3 million upgrade of the Michigan Ion Beam Laboratory听will enable tests on radiation damage in materials to be performed much quicker than previously possible. Such tests will help in the life extension of existing reactors and in the development of advanced reactor designs.

Export licence granted for Lightbridge fuel
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has granted an export licence covering all planned activities related to Lightbridge's advanced metallic nuclear fuel in Norway. The fuel is to undergo irradiation testing at Norway's Halden research reactor.

Radiation imaging in operating reactors
New imaging technology that can see the radiation fields emitted in an operating nuclear reactor has been developed by researchers in the UK. Inspired by cats' eyes, the camera technology could provide real-time monitoring of reactor cores.

New UK high-temperature research facility planned
Amec Foster Wheeler has been selected to lead a project to set up a new high-temperature facility in the UK for testing materials used in current and future nuclear reactors. It will be funded by a government research grant.

China, UK to fund nuclear research centre
China and the UK will work together to co-fund a 拢50 million ($78 million) nuclear research centre, to be headquartered in the UK. Chinese vice premier Ma Kai and British chancellor George Osborne announced the plan on 21 September during the 7th UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue summit in Beijing.

Funding cuts to American Centrifuge
A funding cut of some 60% will allow continued development of the American Centrifuge uranium enrichment technology at Oak Ridge, but will not support ongoing centrifuge operations in Piketon, Centrus 抖阴传媒在线 announced on 11 September.

UK research on intermediate-level waste reduction
Trials have been completed by UK companies Costain and Tetronics International of new technology for the vitrification of intermediate-level radioactive waste. The partners claim the technology could reduce the volume of such waste from the nuclear industry by up to 90%.

UK invests in advanced nuclear fuel research
Grants totalling 拢2.5 million ($3.9 million) have been awarded by the UK government to the National Nuclear Laboratory听and the University of Manchester for the development of accident tolerant nuclear fuels.
