Nuclear power could produce one-third of the UK’s clean hydrogen needs by 2050, according to the Hydrogen Roadmap agreed by the Nuclear Industry Council last week. The NIC, co-chaired by the minister for Business, ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß and Clean Growth and the chairman of the Nuclear Industry Association, sets strategic priorities for government-industry collaboration to promote nuclear power in the UK.

The Canadian government has launched a strategy that sees low-carbon and zero-emission hydrogen fuel technology as a key part of the nation's path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The strategy is underpinned by a federal investment of CAD1.5 billion (USD1.2 billion) in a Low-carbon and Zero-emissions Fuels Fund to increase the production and use of low-carbon fuels, including hydrogen.

Nuclear-produced hydrogen, using electrolyser technology, could have a "sizeable contribution" to make in the development of the hydrogen economy, according to a new report from the New Nuclear Watch Institute think-tank. However, it says the realisation of those benefits will depend on the adoption of technology-neutral policies, which do not discriminate against nuclear power.

The European Commission will consider hydrogen produced from nuclear power as "low-carbon", Paula Abreu Marques, head of unit for renewables and CCS policy at the European Commission's energy directorate told the European Parliament on 16 November.

The US Department of ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß yesterday released its Hydrogen Program Plan to provide a strategic framework for its hydrogen research, development, and demonstration activities. The plan, which reinforces DOE's commitment to develop the technologies that can enable hydrogen expansion in the USA, incorporates the RD&D efforts of multiple DOE offices to advance the production, transport, storage, and use of hydrogen across different sectors of the economy.

France's EDF has launched a hydrogen production and distribution subsidiary to support decarbonisation of industry and mobility using low-carbon electricity from its nuclear and renewable energy fleet.
