A newly signed tripartite agreement broadens the scope of the collaboration between Orano Mining and its Uzbek partners and lays the foundations for the development of new uranium mines in Uzbekistan.

Environmental remediation of former uranium mining sites at Yangiabad and Charkesar in Uzbekistan is set to begin following the signing of a EUR7 million (USD7 million) grant agreement between the Environmental Remediation Account for Central Asia and the Uzbek government.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Rosenergoatom, Rosatom Training Academy and the Agency for Nuclear Power Engineering Development at the Ministry of ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß in Uzbekistan.

A new technology using drones is set to be deployed for the remote monitoring of radiation measurements at former uranium mining and processing areas in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The Ministry of ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß of Uzbekistan has announced the development of a national Low-Carbon ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Strategy with assistance from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and international consulting company Corporate Solutions. Uzbekistan plans to develop alternative energy sources, including solar, hydro and wind, to produce electricity with low-carbon emissions. Uzbekistan also plans to build Central Asia’s first nuclear power plant, to provide the country with "uninterrupted and high-quality electricity on an industrial scale", the ministry said.
