The loading of fuel into the core of unit 4 of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE has been completed, operator Nawah ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Company has announced.

The company responsible for implementing the UAE's civil nuclear power programme and the owner of Egypt's first nuclear power plant are to explore potential areas for cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy under a new agreement signed during COP28.

The company responsible for implementing the UAE's civil nuclear power programme has signed separate agreements with several small modular reactor developers on the sidelines of the COP28 climate conference in Dubai.

Following the launch of a programme aimed at leveraging its experience in successfully delivering a nuclear power plant project, the UAE's Emirates Nuclear ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Corporation has signed a number of agreements with small modular reactor and micro-reactor vendors to explore opportunities for the commercialisation and global deployment of their designs.

Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom has signed its first commercial uranium fuel supply contract with the Emirates Nuclear ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Corporation, for the United Arab Emirates' Barakah nuclear power plant.

The United Arab Emirates' nuclear regulator has issued the licence to Nawah ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Company, clearing the way for commissioning and commercial operation of the unit and marking a historic moment as the UAE realises its nuclear energy vision.

A memorandum of understanding between Polish company Orlen Synthos Green ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß and the Emirates Nuclear ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Corporation will see the parties work together to support decarbonisation efforts in Poland and Europe through investments in in small modular reactors.
 

A Diploma in Nuclear Technology course has been launched by Nawah ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Company to educate and train UAE National High School graduates to become local operators at the Barakah nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, the UAE has launched its first MSc Programme in Medical Physics.

Barakah's operations team has begun the final operational readiness testing needed before the fourth unit at the site near Ruwais in Abu Dhabi can receive an operating licence from the UAE's nuclear regulator.

Romania's Nuclearelectrica and Emirates Nuclear ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the "potential development and expansion of nuclear energy programmes in the United Arab Emirates and Romania as well as within central and eastern Europe".

The third unit at the UAE's nuclear power plant has been declared in commercial operation, less than a year after Barakah 2 reached the same milestone.

The UAE will celebrate the Professional Day of the Nuclear and Radiation Sector Workers on 16 February every year after receiving approval from the country's Cabinet.
