Russia's Rosatom plans to start construction of new units for the Kola II nuclear power plant project in 2028, with commissioning of the first unit set for 2034. The dates were announced by the Kola plant's director, Vasily Omelchuk, at an online press conference on 18 June.

Russian nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL has announced the start of construction of a 300 MW nuclear power unit enabled with the innovative BREST-OD-300 lead-cooled fast reactor at the site of the Siberian Chemical Combine, in Seversk. The reactor will run on mixed uranium-plutonium nitride fuel, specially developed for this facility as the "optimal solution" for fast reactors.

Japan's Toshiba ¶¶Òõ´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Systems & Solutions Corporation announced today it has completed the manufacture of the first of four toroidal field coils it is supplying to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project. Nine of ITER's 18 toroidal field coils, plus a spare, are being fabricated in Europe with the other nine being made in Japan. Gigantic superconducting magnets, they will generate the magnetic cage to contain the ITER fusion reactor's plasma.

Unit 1 of the first nuclear power plant to be built in Belarus was yesterday issued with an operating licence, the country's Ministry of Emergency Situations has announced. The licence was granted after a safety evaluation conducted by joint energy and nuclear research institute Sosny, which is part of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and a public hearing held in April by nuclear regulator Gosatomnadzor.

Tianwan 6 becomes China National Nuclear Corporation's 24th reactor in commercial operation, increasing the company's installed generating capacity from 21.391 GWe to 22.509 GWe (gross).

Plans to construct a Natrium reactor demonstration project at a retiring coal plant in the US state of Wyoming were announced yesterday by TerraPower, PacifiCorp and Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon. The companies are evaluating several potential locations in the state for the plant, which will feature a 345 MWe sodium-cooled fast reactor combined with a molten salt energy storage system that can boost the system's output to 500 MWe for more than five-and-a-half hours when needed. They expect to announce the selected site by the end of 2021.
