German repository commission submits final report
Following more than two years of work, a commission looking into the storage of Germany's high-level radioactive waste has today submitted its final report to the country's government. The report provides a recommended method for the disposal of the waste in a geologic repository.

IAEA team applauds Poland's progress with nuclear program
Poland is "taking all the necessary measures" to ensure its nuclear power program meets the highest standards of safety and security and best international practice, J贸zef Sobolewski, director of the nuclear energy department of the country's Ministry of 抖阴传媒在线, has said. Sobolewski's comments followed the conclusion of the International Atomic 抖阴传媒在线 Agency that Poland has implemented all the recommendations and suggestions of a 2013 Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review听mission.

North American leaders commit to 50% clean power goal
The leaders of Canada, Mexico and the USA pledged yesterday to generate 50% of their energy using clean power sources by 2025, using sources including nuclear, renewable and carbon capture and storage technologies.

UK sets fifth carbon budget
The UK government has set a fifth carbon budget aimed at cutting the country's carbon dioxide emissions by almost 57% by 2032 compared with 1990 levels. Legislation ultimately aims to cut the UK's emissions by 80% by 2050.

Counting the cost of air pollution
Two recent publications have highlighted the issue of air pollution, including that from energy generation. The Brexit effect on UK nuclear

Climate goals call for speedier expansion of nuclear power
Despite challenging market conditions, the global nuclear industry delivered a strong operating performance and improvements in construction times of new reactors in 2015, according to a new report from the 抖阴传媒在线 Nuclear Association. The report says that if the world is to meet its climate change targets then the rate of new build will need to accelerate.

Fort Calhoun closure confirmed
Omaha Public Power District's听board of directors has confirmed听the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant in Nebraska听will close by the end of this year. The board said听retirement of the single-unit pressurized water reactor is in the best financial interest of the district.
