Three Japanese reactors to be retired
Kansai Electric Power Company and the Japan Atomic Power Company听have decided to decommission three nuclear power plants shut down after the Fukushima accident of 2011 rather than applying to restart them.

Oskarshamn 2 outage extended to year-end
The safety modernization of unit 2 of听Sweden's Oskarshamn nuclear power plant is now expected to be completed by the end of 2015, plant operator OKG announced today. The work began in June 2013.

Request to operate Forsmark 2 at increased power
Forsmark Group AB has applied to the Swedish nuclear regulator to operate permanently unit 2 of the Forsmark nuclear power plant at a higher power level. The unit has been in trial operation for the past two years following a 12% power uprate.

Wolsong 1 cleared for continued operation
South Korea's nuclear safety regulator has approved a seven-year licence extension for the refurbished and uprated Wolsong 1 pressurized heavy water reactor. The unit has been offline for two years while discussions continued on renewing its licence.

Grid connection for South Korean reactor

Atucha 2 reaches 100% rated power

CASI venture opens in China
A joint venture between France's Areva and China's Central Nuclear Control System Engineering Co has officially opened in Beijing. The new company - Areva Nuclear Safety Instrument Control Engineering Co (CASI) - will supply digital control systems for nuclear power plants.

Further flaws found in Belgian reactor vessels
Additional inspections at Electrabel's Doel 3 and Tihange 2 power reactors have revealed more extensive flaking within their reactor pressure vessels听than previously identified, the Belgian regulator has announced.
